With Mother’s Day coming up this Sunday, many mums have one thing on their mind – a sleep in. And while that might not be super realistic, what you can enjoy this weekend is a breakfast in bed. Check out these kid-friendly breakfast recipes that are all simple and safe enough for your kids to make for you.
English muffin pizzas
Pizza? For breakfast?! We’ll take it! This recipe is so simple – all you (uh, we mean your kids) will need to do is spread some pizza sauce or crushed tomato on an English muffin, add some ham, pineapple, olives, capsicum or whatever else you like, then sprinkle with cheese! They can microwave the pizza to melt the cheese, or – if they’re a bit older – use the oven to crisp it up. Delicious.
Is a yoghurt parfait just a fancy word for yoghurt and muesli? Yes. But we don’t care – it’s a delicious kid-friendly breakfast that is super easy to make, and we’ll never complain about that! All they need to do is layer yoghurt and muesli in a cup or jar, and top with some fruit. That’s where your Yumbox Chop Chop comes in so handy! You can have all the fruit pre-cut and waiting for them in the fridge. Genius.
We’re not talking peanut butter or vegemite – that’s rookie stuff. Fancy toast typically involves some kind of fruit or combining sweet and savoury to create a flavour explosion for your tastebuds. Blueberries and peanut butter. Avocado and hard boiled eggs. Cucumber and hommus. Go wild. For a few ideas, check out these ones by One Lovely Life.
Is there anything better than a warm bowl of oatmeal in the morning? We think not. But you don’t need to buy the pre-packaged microwave oatmeal to make the cooking process kid-friendly – you can simply pop it in the microwave for around 90 seconds with a 1:1 muesli:milk ratio, top it with fruit or honey (or both!) and serve it up. Simple.
Let’s end on a sweet note with a healthy take on the classic dessert, banana split. All your kids will need to do is cut a banana in half, length-ways, then fill up the middle with some delicious muesli, thick Greek yoghurt, sprinkle with some fresh fruit and drizzle with honey or maple syrup.
