She’s a Sunrise news presenter, he’s a former NRL player who trains high-profile YouTubers and Miss World contestants as the founder of Flow Athletic. But what does family life look like for Talitha Cummins and Ben Lucas? Ben took us inside their kitchen to find out.

Tell us a bit about yourself… where are you based, what do you do and how many kids do you have (names/ages, if possible)?

I’m Ben Lucas, director of Flow Athletic and Flow Training Centre in Paddington, Sydney. I’m married to my beautiful wife Talitha Cummins and we have two kids together: Ollie, whose 4, and Riley, whose 2.

Who does the cooking in your house? What is the go-to meal when you’re short on time, that you know everyone will love?

I actually do the majority of the cooking! Our go-to meal is definitely baked fish and veggies – the whole family loves it, even the kids.

Are your kids fussy eaters? What are their favourite meals at the moment?

No, they’re pretty good. We try to expose them to a range of foods, so I think that’s why. Their favourite meal, believe it or not, is that same white fish and veggies meal that’s my go-to in a pinch – it makes life so easy.

Is dessert a nightly occurrence in your house? What’s your current go-to?

We definitely don’t have it every night. When we’re at home we try to be healthy, so “dessert” is usually fruit and Greek yoghurt.

Who packs the lunchboxes in your house? Does it usually happen the night before school, or the morning of?

Talitha usually packs them in the mornings, and I help if I’m at home. Being a gym owner, I need to be at work really early, but I usually try to get home to have breakfast with the family.

It’s a busy morning, and you’re in a pinch. Are your kids getting “tuckshop money” for lunch?

They are a little young for that right now, but no doubt in the future it will be a good fail safe!

How do you store your lunchboxes, and how many do you have in your collection right now?

We have a couple as the kids like colourful and themed ones. They go into a draw with all of our food containers – nothing fancy!

What is one food that is always included in your kids’ lunchboxes?

Always fruit! Plus, we throw in a few fun muesli bars and wraps for them.

You’re throwing your kids a birthday party: do you outsource, or are you one to plan and prepare it all yourself?

For now, while they’re small, we will either make something fun for them at home or go out and buy some snacks and a cake. When they are bigger and want more friends over, we will probably resort to pizza!

Do you have any family traditions? What are they?

I am one of six children and my wife is an only child, so we are really trying to create family traditions with our own family.

Thanksgiving is not normally celebrated in Australia, but we really like the traditions around it. We use it as a time to get together with family and friends and celebrate all we have to be grateful for.

Do you suffer with dad guilt? How do you deal with it?

Yes, I definitely do. Being a good parent is the most important thing in my life, so I just learn from each day and try to do better the next.

What’s your top mum/dad hack?

Each night before bed, I meditate with my son Oli using the ‘Calm’ app. They have a number of meditations for young ones. He really looks forward to it each night – plus, it helps him relax, breathe better and sleep.
